Midnight Marauder

A custom built bicycle frame for the city commuter craving some velo speed.

Description

Tall riders have few options when it comes to a relaxed yet sporty frame. Midnight Marauder blends the handling of a competitive track bike with the comfort and appearance of a traditional road frame. Offered to the city rider craving some velo speed, Midnight Marauder is a thin walled steel frame bicycle.

Processes include tig welding, brass brazing, mitering on the mill, and multiple frame alignment/tolerance checks.


Frame Design

The almost perfectly horizontal top tube is reminiscent of traditional 70s road road frames. A tightened wheel base gives the rider the handling abilities of a standard track frame, whereas the neutral trail of 54.5mm guarantees there are no surprises. Shortened seat stays grant the aesthetic of an aggressive crit racer married to a casual ride.  

SolidWorks was used to dimension the bike frame. This tool provided information on fit and ride of the bicycle frame.

Process

A circular hole saw was used to miter all the tubes. The jig made sure the tube was manufactured to the exact specifications of the design.

Following the welding of the down tube and seat tube to the bottom bracket, the frame dimensions are then compared to the engineering drawing.
